48 Hours Prior to the Move:
We will gladly issue a refund of the deposit minus 20% handling charges.
Less than 48 Hours Prior Move:
We will gladly issue you a transferable move certificate for the value on deposit. This certificate is valid for 1 year from the date of the original move and may be extended with written permission. Other terms and conditions may apply based on local law.
Long Distance Moves:
We require 100% deposit as we reserve space for your move with our partner companies. This ensures the lowest cost to you for your move. The same conditions apply to your deposit as with local moves.
Terms and Conditions of Carriage
Conditions of Carriage and Bills of Lading for trucking household goods in the USA are regulated by each province and are essentially consistent across the board. They are put in place to protect you, the client, and your mover. It is highly recommended that you read the specifics laid out within your contract.

Motor Vehicle Act Regulations B.C. Reg. 25/58 & Alberta Traffic Safety Act Reg. 313/2002 Specified Conditions of Carriage – Household Goods
Liability of Carrier (Article 1)
The carrier of the goods described in this bill of lading is liable for any loss or damage to the goods accepted by the carrier or the carrier’s agent except as provided in these articles.
Exceptions From Liability (Article 5)
The carrier is not liable for the following:
- loss, damage or delay to any of the goods described in this bill of lading caused by an Act of God, the Queen’s or public enemies, riots, strikes, a defect or inherent vice in the goods, the act or default of the consignor, owner or consignee, authority of law or quarantine.
- unless caused by the negligence of the carrier or the carrier’s agent or employee:
- damage to fragile articles that are not packed and unpacked by the contracting carrier or by that carrier’s agent or employee(s);
- damage to the mechanical, electronic or other operations of radios, phonographs, clocks, appliances, musical instruments and other equipment, irrespective of who packed or unpacked such articles, unless servicing and preparation was performed by the contracting carrier or by that carrier’s agent or employee(s);
- deterioration of or damage to perishable food, plants or pets;
- loss of contents of consign or packed articles, unless the containers used are opened for the carrier’s inspection and articles are listed on this bill of lading and receipted for by the carrier;
- damage to or loss of a complete set or unit when only part of such set is damaged or lost, in which event the carrier is only liable for repair or recovering of the lost or damaged piece or pieces;
- damage to the goods at place or places of pick-up at which the consignor or the consignor’s agent is not in attendance;
- damage to the goods at place or places of delivery at which the consignee or the consignee’s agent is not in attendance and cannot give receipt for goods delivered.
- The consignor shall be charged for all parking fees and tickets for illegal parking acquired during the move.
- The consignor agrees to notify the carrier in writing within 5 days of delivery with full particulars of any damage or loss.
- All monies owed to the carrier must be paid in full before any claim will be considered.
Valuation (Article 9)
- Subject to Article 10, the amount of any loss or damage for which the carrier is liable, whether or not the loss or damage results from negligence of the carrier or the carrier’s employees or agents, is to be computed on the basis of the value of the lost or damaged article(s) at the time and place of shipment.
- Additional charges to cover the additional coverage over $.60 per pound per article must be paid by the consignor.
Articles of Extraordinary Value (Article 13)
A carrier is not bound to carry any documents, specie or any articles of extraordinary value unless by a special agreement to do so. If such goods are carried without a special agreement and the nature of the goods is not disclosed on the face of this bill of lading, the carrier is not liable for any loss or damage.
Freight Charges (Article 14)
If required by the carrier, the freight and all other lawful charges accruing on the goods must be paid before delivery.
Delays
Failure by the carrier to effect pick-up or delivery within the expected time frame shall not result in any reduction of charges or render him liable for any costs or expenses incurred by the consignor.
Basic Protection & Replacement Value Protection (RVP) – Conditions and Exceptions
- Shall be subject to all Conditions of Carriage.
- All claims under RVP (Replacement Value Protection) are subject to a $500.00 deductable to be paid by the client.
- Protection plans do not cover any loss of value to an item due to damage and subsequent repairs.
- No liability whatsoever shall be assumed if the client or others assist or interfere in any part of the moving procedures.
- Weight estimation uses the method specified within the Alberta Traffic Safety Act and/or the Motor Vehicle Act Regulations B.C. Reg. of multiplying cubic volume in feet times an average cargo weight of 7 pounds per cubic foot. Pounds per foot of loaded truck is calculated at width x height x 7.
- The carrier shall not be liable for:
- Property which at the time of loss has become obsolete or unusable for its originally intended purpose.
- Any art, antiques, documents, jewels, coins, specie or any articles of extraordinary value (over $1000) unless by special agreement.
- Injury to goods resulting from previous injury and / or improper assembly.
- Damage to unstable furniture or the structural failure of particle board furniture..
- Ordinary wear and tear caused by moving procedures or deterioration due to temprature change or weather conditions.
- Injury to goods or premises due to the requirements of unusual or unique moving procedures caused by access restrictions.
- Client assembled “ikea” type furniture or simulates, lamps or other modular furniture that is not disassembled and packed for transport. (Client must do this disassembling themselves.)
- Breakage of glass, stone and mirrors not packed and unpacked in boxes by company employees. (Client must request this service.)
